Congrats to PAST Postdoc Joanna Davies for publishing a new study on foraminiferal assemblages and organic biomarkers in surface sediments recovered from continental slope depths in Baffin Bay during the 2023 BADEX expedition. Baffin Bay is a semi-enclosed marine basin that is linked to the Labrador Sea by Davis Strait and to the Arctic Ocean by a series of gateways in the Canadian Archipelago. The marine sediment record in Baffin Bay holds a detailed record of the interactions between warm Atlantic sourced waters, sea ice, ecosystems, and the marine terminating margins of the Greenland Ice Sheet. However, linking faunal assemblages, including agglutinated taxa, to environmental datasets is critical for these paleoenvironmental reconstructions, especially in regions like Baffin Bay where calcareous foraminifera are poorly preserved.
